Finland's 2011 milk production down 1.5%, milk consumption up 4%
 

 

A total of 2,190 million litres of milk were delivered to Finland dairies in 2011, down 1.5% on year while organic milk production rose by more than 4%, according to Gallup Food and Farm Facts.

 

The consumption of milk products increased by nearly 3% in 2011, preliminary information shows. Particularly the consumption of fatty products went up: the consumption of butter by more than 20%, that of cream by around 10%, that of cheese by 5%, and that of yoghurt by around 2%. Milk consumption decreased by approximately 1%.

 

In 2011, milk imports totalled more than 52 million litres, showing an increase of around 5%. Butter imports more than doubled, and the import of cheese rose by 17% on-year.

 

Milk product prices rose by approximately 4% in 2011 on average.
