Vietnam seeks dialogue with US over shrimp dispute
To be able to seek a satisfactory solution for both the US and Vietnam over shrimp trade dispute, the latter has sent request for consultation with the US.
The consultation, under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) dispute settlement system, is a chance for the two countries to discuss the matter and negotiate a satisfactory solution without proceeding further to litigation.
The move was taken after the US introduced anti-dumping measures on certain frozen warm water Vietnamese shrimp products.
After 60 days, if the consultations have failed to resolve the dispute, Vietnam may request a settlement decided by a WTO panel.
