Finland's 2010 meat imports rise on-year

According to Gallup Food and Farm Facts, the imports share of Finland's total meat consumption rose to 16.7% in 2010, with meat imports totalling over 65 million kilos from 14.9% in 2009.

Meat imports increased by almost 10 million kilos against 2009.

According to Gallup food and Farm Facts, meat imports to catering establishments have most likely increased as no significant changes have taken place in the retail sector in recent years.

Meat imports may increase in future because there is too much pork in Europe. According to Finnish food industry company Atria, the large stocks are a threat to Finnish pork. However, the market situation in Europe has to improve at some point.
