Pakistan poultry prices skyrocket amid price drop expectations
Poultry prices in Pakistan have increased by PKR50 per kg within a week amid a foreseen price fall in March this year.
Chicken prices have reached PKR170 from PKR120 in the week due to high demand and low supply in the market.
The All Pakistan Poultry Association (APPA) has fixed live bird wholesale price at PKR106 and retail price at PKR112. Chicken meat price has been set at PKR167 per kg, prices of table eggs would be PKR1,590 for a box of 360 eggs while retail price would be PKR55 per dozen.
However, chicken meat was available at most markets and bazaars at PKR170-180 instead of the fixed price, according a survey by The Nation.
Market sources said poultry traders do not bother to follow the fixed rates.
Still, Bukhari, the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) North Zone secretary, said prices will start to decline again in the coming two weeks, mainly because some farmers have restarted production which would increase chicken supply.
