Malaysia's fishermen seek RM5 million to launch aquaculture projects
A fishmerman's group in the Malaysian state of Trengganu is requesting RM5 million (US$1.43 million) from the state to develop aquaculture projects.
Trengganu Fishermen's Association (Penentu) manager Johari Mohd Nor said the projects would provide supplementary income for fishermen and their families.
The projects such as rearing of carps in cages would yield good returns because of the high demand and good prices, he told local news media. He said the association would require funds for such projects which included getting the fish fry and building cages.
Malaysian authorities have been encouraging large scale aquaculture projects in the country in recent months.
