Zheijiang Garden Biochemical lifts vitamin D3 price by 39%
Zheijiang Garden Biochemical announced Tuesday (Feb 21) it has increased it vitamin D3 price to RMB320 (US$50.80)/kg, up 39% from RMB230 (US$36.52)/kg.
The price for the overseas market has increased to US$40/kg.
The company says its Dongyang site has already stopped production and production is limited in its Hangzhou production site.
Zhejiang Garden Biochemical cites a decrease in available wool in China for the price rise of vitamin D3.
The company says many small and medium wool scouring plants in the country have closed down. This has lead to an upward pressure on wool grease and therefore cholesterol.
Cholesterol is the raw material for vitamin D3. It is chemically bound in wool grease and obtained through scouring wool.
