EU's 2011 grain imports jump 57%
The grain imports of the EU in calendar 2011 soared by 57% as compared with the previous year.
The upsurge is brought by Russia and Ukraine bouncing back into the market after the drought-induced traumas of 2010.
Latest trade figures from GTIS show that the EU imported very nearly four million tonnes of grain from Ukraine last calendar year, almost five times the volume traded in 2010.
Russia sent its western neighbours almost 1.5 million tonnes of grain in the same period.
