Canada's cattle exports get Peru access
Canadian Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz said on Tuesday (Feb 21) that the country's cattle exports have gained immediate access to Peru.
Canada and Peru have agreed on a health certificate for the export of live cattle, almost three years after a free trade agreement between the two countries came into force in 2009.
The Peruvian market is estimated to be worth CAD2.5 million (US$2.5 million) in 2012 for the Canadian cattle sector. Canadian exporters can ship cattle born after August 1, 2007, and most expected sales are aimed at the dairy industry.
Canada is still seeking full access for beef exports to Peru.
