South Korea finds more FMD cases in pigs

South Korea saw another outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in its swine population in Daejeon Metropolitan City, according to the country's veterinary authorities.

The World Organisation for Animal Health received follow-up report no.12 on Friday, February 18. According to the report, the FMD outbreak occurred on February 14.

A total of 2000 animals were found susceptible to the disease, out of which five cases were identified. All affected animals were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak remains unknown. According to the report, the number of culled animals (as part of disease control) in the affected farms depends on the vaccination status and timing. The final count of culled animals will be definitively given in the future.
