ADDCON takes over BASF's Formi sales

The ADDCON Group, a leading European manufacturer of silage products and preservatives and feed additives, has taken over distribution of the feed supplement "Formi" from BASF which already began this year.

The brand name "Formi" is a growth-promoting acid supplement whose properties are based on potassium diformate. Formi was approved in the European Union in 2001 as the first non-antibiotic animal nutrition product with growth-promoting properties. The supplement has been considered an established alternative to feed antibiotics to ensure safe and efficient pig farming. The product is also applied in aquaculture.

ADDCON has been manufacturing Formi since 2002 at its own production site at Porsgrunn, Norway, under contract for BASF AG.

ADDCON has now also taken over the product's worldwide distribution. The raw material, formic acid, will still be supplied by BASF.

The ADDCON Group anticipates strong growth in demand for Formi due to EU's ban on feed antibiotics as well as re-orientation in distribution synergy. "The company sees potential above all in the growth of own feed production by livestock farmers in the countries of southern and eastern Europe as well as in Asia", Bernd Kochannek, Managing Director of the ADDCON Group, announced.

ADDCON will continue development of further fields of application and formulations for Formi.

Formi has a range of advantages in practical use. It helps improve feed utilisation by animals, and there are also benefits to animal health and hygiene. It also allows the use of feed antibiotics to be dispensed with, thus helping to secure sustainable food production.

With this step, ADDCON further strengthens its position as a leading supplier of acid-based feed additives. The company already maintains a comprehensive portfolio, including acid adsorbates and liquid acid mixes.
