Vietnam to purchase US$4.4 million crop seeds

A decision to provide an additional VND92.2 billion (US$4.4 million) on purchasing crop seeds for national reserve has been signed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the government said on its website.

Under the decision, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is demanded to use the sum to buy 3,050 tonnes of rice seed, 310,000 tonnes of corn seed and 110 tonnes of vegetable seed for national reserve.

Vietnam is the country susceptible to natural disasters on which agricultural sector is often most affected. Thousands of hectares of crops had been destroyed every year.

The country has to reserve huge volume of agricultural materials which will be provided for farmers affected by these natural disasters.
