Australia's goat meat export values rise last year

Following strong demand from key export markets and favourable seasonal conditions within the eastern states, Australian goat meat values jumped by 13% last year, to a sum of AUD128 million (US$138 million).

The US remained the most valuable export destination for goat meat at AUD72.5 million (US$78 million), up 10% on-year.  The value of other important markets such as Taiwan and the Caribbean also increased 13% and 9%, respectively.

December goat meat export values increased 7% on December 2010 values, to AUD11 million (US$12 million). Volumes are expected to become lower in coming months as supply tightens due to flooding throughout New South Wales and Queensland.
