UK firm Grampian up for grabs

Grampian, the biggest supplier of meat products to UK's markets is forced into a sale, as it is unable to repay several debts.

Grampian has run into trouble with unions regarding salaries, pensions, and the use of agency staff.

The sale of the company could raise as much as US$777 million. It has been learnt that at least three bidders have submitted their bids for Grampian, and they include Dutch meat giant Vion, Brazil's Sadia and US private equity firm CCMP.

Increasing pressure has been placed onto British food companies due to skyrocketing commodity prices and campaigns against mass-processing methods and battery-farmed poultry.
