India's 2012-13 grain crop forecast near record level

Despite a "below normal" 2012 monsoon, the Indian agriculture ministry has forecast near record grain production in 2012-13.

With the ministry's forecasts representing India's second highest food grain output ever, the USDA raised its rice production forecast for 2012-13 by one million tonnes to 100 million tonnes but slightly lowered its corn projection to 20.5 million tonnes. Wheat output is revised upwards by one million tonnes to 94.9 million tonnes.
