China's Guangxi to build five grain logistics centres
Southwest China's Guangxi Autonomous Region plans to build five grain logistics centres and is making preliminary preparations, said the Guangxi Grain Bureau.
The logistics centres will be built in cities of Nanning, Liuzhou, Guigang, Fangchenggang and Beihai.
Currently, Guangxi's yields of wheat and corn are unable to meet its demand.
Moreover, the development of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and Guangxi Beibu Bay Economic Zone has increased the demand for grain in recent years. As a result, it has to increase grain purchases from other provinces and counties.
Guangxi now transports about 9.5 million tonnes of grain yearly with more than 6 million tonnes being transported in or out of the region and over 3 million tonnes are transported between grain producing areas and grain sales areas in the region.
The autonomous region is predicted to have to transport 12 million tonnes of grain in 2010.
