Russia's Cherkizovo boosts '08 pork and poultry sales
Russian meat firm Cherkizovo boosted pork and poultry sales in 2008 over the year earlier after launching new farms and sold the meat at higher prices, the company said on Thursday (Feb 19).
Pork sale volumes rose 40 percent to about 39,000 tonnes last year after Cherkizovo started production at two greenfield farms in the Lipetsk and Tambov regions south of Moscow, while poultry volumes rose 12 percent to 187,000 tonnes of slaughter weight.
According to the company, average pork and poultry sales prices both rose year-on-year by 14 percent in dollar terms.
Cherkizovo said pork prices rose to RUB68.36 per kilogramme in 2008, excluding value-added tax, and in dollar terms they rose to US$2.75 per kilogramme of live weight.
Poultry sales prices rose to RUB63.87 and, in dollar terms, to US$2.57 per kilogramme.
Sales volumes in the meat-processing segment fell 3 percent year-on-year to about 145,000 tonnes.
Average prices in the division rose by 19 percent to RUB103.86. In dollar terms, they rose 22 percent to US$4.18 per kilogramme.
