Contractors file liens against Northern Beef Packers plant
Just over US$7 million in mechanic's liens have been filed against the Northern Beef Packers plant under construction south of Aberdeen, South Dakota.
A seventh lien was filed Tuesday (Feb 17) in the Brown County Courthouse, with all liens currently on pending status, according to county officials.
About US$2.1 million were owed to a Huron company for dirt work; US$1.75 to a Nebraska company for materials, installation and labour; and just under US$1 million to a North Dakota company for a pre-engineered steel structure and other work.
Supporters said once the US$40 million plant is fully operational, it could process 1,500 head of livestock per day and employ about 650 people.
The beef plant's opening has been delayed several times.
