Germany may ban Monsanto's GM corn
Germany may revoke a license for the cultivation of Monsanto's GM corn because consumers and farmers do not want it, a report from newspaper Berliner Zeitung said.
The report, quoting Agriculture Minister Ilse Aigner, said genetic engineering has so far not yielded tangible benefits for the people.
Germany has granted a license for the growing of MON810 GM corn, while France and Italy have not due to environmental concerns.
The report said Aigner wants to allow Germany's 16 states to ban the growing of GM crops, a view that may clash with EU laws.
