Amid low global stocks, Ukraine's grain stocks gain 26 percent on-year
At a time when most producing countries are experiencing low grain stocks, Ukraine Monday (February 19, 2008) announced its stock as of Feb 1 at 13 million tonnes, 26 percent higher than the same time last year.
According to the state statistics committee, wheat stocks on the date totaled 5.9 million tonnes, an increase of 29 percent compared with Feb. 1, 2007.
Feb. 1 farmers held a total of 4.7 million tonnes of grain including 1.7 million tonnes of wheat. The rest was held by grain storage and processing enterprises.
