Mongolia's livestock ravaged by harsh winter
A harsh winter has killed more than 40,000 livestock and left about 90 percent of Mongolia buried in snow.
Local media said on Friday (February 15, 2008) that animals had died due to food shortage caused by the harsh weather, and snow is up to 25 centimeters deep in some places.
The Mongolian government is currently working to reduce the damage to the farming industry, which is the one of the country's most important sectors. Mongolia rears more than 40 million livestock.
