Poor feed sales curtail methionine demand in China

Prices of methionine stayed stable during the week ending February 16.

The production volume of feed had reduced substantially in January, prompting feed millers to limit the procurements of ingredients while livestock inventories dwindled due to high releases during January.

Price quotes of imported dl-methionine were in the range of RMB32-34/kg.

As producers stand firm amid tight supply, methionine prices are unlikely to reduce despite slack demand in China. However, the upward potential of the market will be limited as H7N9 bird flu epidemic in the country remains severe.

RMB1=US$0.1649 (Feb 17)
