China rainfall, irrigation further ease drought in wheat areas
Rainfall and irrigation in China's drought-hit wheat areas has further helped to ease the situation there, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Monday (February 16).
Wheat areas suffering from the drought totalled 5.58 million hectares in major producing provinces as of Monday, down 314,000 hectares from Sunday, the office said in a statement published on its Web site.
Wheat areas affected by severe drought were down to 1.79 million hectares, it said, compared with a peak of 3.61 million hectares.
