Indonesia lifts temporary ban on pork imports
Indonesia has lifted a temporary ban on imports of pork and its by-products after they were ruled out as being the source of the AH1N1 influenza.
The Trade Ministry said Saturday (Feb 13, 2010) that it decided to lift the 10-month ban because it considered that "the disease cannot be transmitted from animals to human."
UN Food and Agriculture Organization experts say there is no risk of getting the AH1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, from eating pork.
Indonesia has recorded more than 1,000 confirmed cases of the AH1N1 virus since it appeared in the country in June last year. Ten people in the country have died from the disease.
