CIS countries see 49% rise in 2011 grain output
Except Turkmenistan, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries produced 200.9 million tonnes of grains in 2011, up 49.4% on-year, CIS Interstate Statistical Committee said.
Kazakhstan showed the greatest increase in grain production, up 2.2 times to 27 million tonnes. Russia increased grain harvest volumes by 54.1% to 93.9 million tonnes, Ukraine up 44.3% to 56.7 million tonnes, Armenia up 34.8% to 0.4 million tonnes, Azerbaijan up 26% to 2.5 millon tonnes, Belarus up 19.9% to 8.4 million tonnes and Moldova up 3.1% to 2.5 million tonnes.
At the same time, Uzbekistan reduced grain production by 8.7% to 6.8 million tonnes, Kyrgyzstan down 0.2% to 1.6 million tonnes, Tajikistan down 12.8% to 1.1 million tonnes.
In 2011, the growth of agricultural production in the CIS totalled 18.4%. Kazakhstan and Russia became the leaders in the growth rates with 26.7% and 22.1% respectively.
