The state statistics committee reported Tuesday (Feb 14) that Ukraine's grain stocks totalled 23.6 million tonnes on February 1, 66% more than on February 1, 2011.
The grain stocks included 8.9 million tonnes of wheat, 2.3 million tonnes of barley, 11.2 million tonnes of corn and 200,000 tonnes of rye.
Farmers held on the date 11.2 million tonnes of grain, 63% more than a year ago, including 4.1 million tonnes of wheat, 1.5 million tonnes of barley, 4.8 million tonnes of corn and 100,000 tonnes of rye.
The remaining grain was held by grain storage and processing enterprises.
In 2011, Ukraine's grain harvest in clean weight was 56.7 million tonnes. Ukraine's grain harvest in 2010 fell by 14.8% on the year to 39.23 million tonnes in clean weight because of drought. Ukraine's annual grain consumption is about 26 million tonnes.
