UK's wheat exports up 19% in December

 

 

UK exported 328,852 tonnes of wheat in December 2011,up 19% on-year, customs data showed Tuesday (Feb 14).

 

Shipments in the first six months of the 2011-12 marketing year totalled 1.58 million tonnes, compared with 1.92 million tonnes in the same period from the last season, the data show.

 

The month's largest buyer was again the Netherlands, which purchased 135,555 tonnes on top of the 536,489 tonnes bought between July and November. Spain, another traditional buyer of UK wheat, purchased 81,325 tonnes, while Portugal bought 20,635 tonnes.

 

More unusually, the US made a significant purchase for the second consecutive month, taking 49,500 tonnes on top of the 49,498 tonnes registered in November.
