China's Liaoning gathers 10-million-tonne grain

In 2011, grain yield of northeast China's Liaoning Province reached 10 million tonnes, 15.3% higher than 2010, making it the highest growth among the country's grain producing provinces and regions.

The sharp rise in the province's grain production was mainly attributed to expansion of planting area, implementation of preferential policies and improvement of technological services for agriculture.

Liaoning has set the target to stabilise its grain planting area at 3.12 million hectares this year and will put high priority on raising paddy output, improving low yield farmlands and promoting production of oil-bearing crops with major oilseed of peanut.

China's grain output rose to 571.21 million tonnes last year, marking the eighth consecutive yearly growth.
