Brazil's January meat exports overtake soy

Brazil's meat exports exceeded soy exports in January, said the Brazilian government on Wednesday (February 13, 2008).

Meat exports and soy exports brought in US$898 million and US$678 million, respectively, in January.

That means meat exports has taken the leading position among Brazil's exports last month, indicating a new agribusiness tendency in Brazil, the government said.

In January, Brazil exported products worth US$1.3 billion and imported products worth US$572.4 million, thus registering a trade surplus of US$727.6 million in agriculture and livestock.
