France consumes more poultry in 2011

Francis Bouju, president of the Association for promotion of French poultry (APVF) said that in 2011 the French consumed less beef and pork, but ate more poultry.

The French have reduced meat consumption as a whole.

The French poultry consumption increased by nearly 1% on-year to 25 kilogrammes per capita per year, a growth rate which has been observed for over 10 years, Francis Bouju noted.

Pork remained the French's favourite meat in 2011. However, its annual consumption dropped by nearly 2% on the year to 32 kilogrammes per capita.

Beef consumption continued to fall in 2011, inching down by more than 1%, to 21 kilogrammes per capita consumed annually.
