India to inspect Vietnam's rejection of corn, soymeal delivery
India will send a two-member team to Vietnam to examine Vietnam's rejection of corn and soymeal shipments, India's Farm Secretary P.K. Basu said Friday (Feb 11).
"We have spoken to the Indian ambassador in Vietnam to facilitate our investigation," Basu said.
Vietnam earlier this week rejected Indian cargoes containing thousands of tonnes of corn and soymeal, citing the presence of pests. India is Asia's largest exporter of soymeal and corn while Vietnam is one of its biggest customers.
"We have been informed that there have been some rejection of corn and soymeal at one of the ports in Vietnam," Basu said, adding that the team is expected to submit its report next week.
Two cargoes, one containing around 21,000 tonnes of corn and the other with a combined 20,500 tonnes of corn and soymeal, were rejected Tuesday (Feb 8) at Ho Chi Minh City port, an executive at a global agricultural trading company said earlier this week.
