Argentina to supply beef to Venezuela for oil

Venezuela and Argentina agreed Tuesday to exchange commodities such as beef and oil to cover both countries' weak points.

After a meeting in Caracas, President Hugo Chavez said Argentina will be provided with oil by Venezuela to address energy issues in the country.

Argentina pledged to prop up Venezuela's agriculture and food sector with a bilateral technical committee and the construction of a plant to manufacture Argentine farm equipment.

Venezuela is currently facing shortages of basic staples such as milk, beans, meat and poultry as price controls and nationalization of shops fuel the black market.
