Tanzania's cattle supply drops 3.7% as prices increase

 

 

Tanzania's weekly cattle supply at Pugu market dropped to 621 from 645 of the previous session, representing 3.7% fall, which resulted to significant rise of prices.

 

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade weekly report shows that the price for the mature cattle grade (G2) declined to TZS600,000 (US$372) in the period under review, from TZS557,000 (US$345) recorded in previous week, which is 7.7% change. Likewise, the price for the grade (G3) female cattle dipped to TZS450,000 (US$279) during the week from TZS465,500 (US$288) of the period before, equivalent to 3.3% change.

 

The price for the mature cattle grade (G2) rose to TZS800,000 (US$496) in week, representing 17.6% change from TZS680,000 (US$422) of the previous period. The value of the male cattle grade (G3) recorded a 1.1% increasing to TZS550,000 (US$341) in the period under review compared to TZS544,000 (US$338) in the week earlier.

 

Meanwhile, the average sales per market day for goats declined to 200 during the week, equivalent to 46.1% change compared to 371 supplied in the week before. Likewise, the average sales per market day for sheep declined to 152 during the week from 217 in the previous session, which is 29.9% change.

 

Consequently, the supply cut led to the rise of price for the mature goat grade (G2) to TZS85,000 (US$53) from TZS70,000 (US$43) of the previous period, a 21.4% change. The price for the mature sheep (G3) increased to TZS70,000 (US$43) from TZS54,000 (US$33), which is 29.6% change.
