Cold and dryness likely to harm China's grain sowing
During the spring, much cold temperatures and drought may damage grain sowing in China's major growing areas, the Ministry of Agriculture said Thursday (Feb 9).
Currently, winter wheat is growing well thanks to high-quality sowing in autumn last year. However, a possible cold spell later this spring may threaten wheat crops, according to the ministry.
Early rice planting usually starts from early April, whereas corn planting begins from May.
Northeast China is the country's major corn production base, while whereas is mainly grown in south China.
