Strategie Grains holds 2009-10 EU grain output at 296 million tonnes
European Union grain production in 2009-10 is forecast at 296 million tonnes, unchanged from the January estimate, analysts Strategie Grains said Thursday (February 12).
The 2009-10 production is now expected to be down 5 percent on the year, said the report.
Soft wheat production estimates for 2009-10 were down marginally from last month's at 132.2 million tonnes, down 5.6 percent on the previous year's 140.1 million tonnes. The group revised down its 2008-09 soft wheat output by 200,000 tonnes
Damage to crops from the cold spell at the beginning of January should be limited, the report said.
Within the EU, wheat demand is forecast to stay at the level of 2008-09 with a reduction for wheat usage in animal feeds offset by higher usage in ethanol and starch sectors.
