Bird flu outbreak in northern Vietnamese province
The northern province of Bac Ninh on February 11 reported an outbreak of bird flu in An Dong, Tien Du district.
The local authorities decided to cull both flocks whose samples tested positive for the H5N1 virus.
They also directed Tien Du district and the relevant agencies to implement measures to isolate and eradicate the outbreak.
The trading and transportation of poultry in the area has been banned.
The local animal health service provided chemicals for local people to disinfect poultry farming equipment in the affected and high-risk areas.
Also on February 11, eight cases of bird flu were found in a flock of ducks in Vi Thuy and Long My districts, Hau Giang province.
Local agencies culled more than 3,000 infected ducks while setting up quarantine stations and strengthening controls on the trading and transportation of poultry.
According to the Animal Health Department, to date, bird flu has hit the seven provinces of Ca Mau, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri and Bac Ninh.
