Pakistani seafood sector advised to implement new methods

Pakistan's seafood sector has good potential to earn foreign exchange of up to US$2 billion if fishermen adopt modern methods and exporters opt for shrimp farming on a mass-scale, said the Provincial Minister for Fisheries.

Minister Zahid Ali Bhurgari urged the seafood exporters and private entrepreneurs to come forward and make investment in the sector, assuring that government would facilitate them in this regard.

Later, the minister visited stalls of Sindh Fisheries Department during which Ghulam Muhammad Mehar, director general of Fisheries and Anwar-ul-Islam, director (research & development) provided information on various relevant issues. The minister showed interest in the stalls and said that such kind of exhibitions would help in disseminating information on the fisheries sector among the public.
