Pakistan's poultry industry appeals for tax break

Pakistan's government has been urged by the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) to free the poultry industry from the proposed Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST).

It was reported that PPA stressed that the poultry industry is an agro-based industry that provides cheaper meat to fulfil the protein needs of the population.

PPA Chairman of the Northern Zone, Abdul Haye Mehta, called upon the government to waive regulatory duty on import of corn and fix electricity tariff for the poultry industry at the agricultural tariff.

He laid emphasis on government's role in patronising the poultry industry as it is one of the most organised agro-based industries which contributes 40% of the total meat consumption in the country.

He added that the industry generates income and provides employment to about 1.5 million people in the country.
