China confirms bird flu outbreak in Xinjiang; under control
An outbreak of bird flu in China's northwestern Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region has killed 519 poultry in the area, the Ministry of Agriculture said late Tuesday (February 10).
The dead birds were confirmed Tuesday as H5N1-positive in the Hetian region of the province, the ministry said in a statement published on its Web site.
The outbreak of the H5N1 virus is under control following the slaughter of 13,218 poultry and other measures, it said.
