Ukraine holds back on grain export quota increase
The Ukrainian government committee has postponed approving a draft decree increasing the grain export quota, the government press service announced Friday Monday, February 11, 2008).
The increase, for the remainder of the current marketing year, was to be by 1.7 million tonnes to 2.9 million tonnes. The decision has been postponed for an undefined period of time.
The press service only said "the issue will now be discussed at a meeting, to be held in near future, which will be attended by the Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko."
President of the Ukraine Grain Association Vladimir Klimenko said in Kiev Thursday the country may resume its grain export Feb. 15.
He said a government committee would discuss the increase in the grain export quota Feb. 7 and the draft decision would be presented to the cabinet for final approval Feb. 13.
