Russia exports more grain in spite of poor weather
In January 2010, grain exports from Russia totalled 1.54 million tonnes, up 530,000 tonnes from the same period last year, despite unfavourable weather conditions at the ports.
Taking into account the seasonal fluctuations, the record volumes of grain shipment through Russian ports broke the record during the recent seven years, according to Rusagrotrans.
During the first eight months of the current 2009-10 marketing year, grain export volumes totalled 13.1 million tonnes, down from 13.3 million tonnes in marketing year 2008-09.
February 2010 grain exports are expected to reach 1.6 million tonnes, up from 1.37 million tonnes in the same time last year.
