Russia sees 6% less winter crop output
Throughout the general winter crop area, there will be death of 6% of the crops sowings, which is below the average level, said Elena Skrynnik, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on Wednesday (Feb 8).
While speaking about the situation with preparation for the spring field works and calling it as the priority, the Minister said that "the winter crops sowing campaign occupied the areas of 16.5 million ha, and the spring sowing works were planned for the areas of 50.8 million ha".
The forecast of spring grain harvest volumes totals 50-55 million tonnes. Taking into account the production volumes of winter grains, the general harvest in 2012 will exceed the level of 90 million tonnes, Skrynnik informed.
According to her, the general condition of winter crops sowings is rather good.
