Russian '09 meat imports drop 19% on-year
Russia's meat imports fell 19.1% on the year to 1.31 million tonnes in 2009, the Federal Customs Service said Monday (Feb 8).
In monetary terms, the imports fell to US$4.27 billion in 2009 from US$$4.92 billion in 2008, the service said. Meat imports from countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) amounted to 1.29 million tonnes worth US$4.208 billion in 2009.
Poultry imports fell 25.3% on the year to 964,800 tonnes in 2009. In monetary terms, they fell to US$964.8 million from US$1.34 billion in 2008. All poultry was imported outside CIS.
Fish imports amounted to 794,500 tonnes worth US$1.44 billion in 2009 as compared with 881,100 tonnes worth US$1.66 billion in 2008.
