Russia meat imports up 14.2 percent on-year in 2008
Russia's meat imports rose 14.2 percent on-year to 1.61 million tonnes in 2008, the Federal Customs Service said Friday (Feb 6).
In monetary terms, meat imports rose 43.3 percent on the year to US$4.92 billion in the period.
Imports from countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) accounted for almost all meat imports in the period, the service said.
Russia'spoultry imports fell 5.4 percent on the year to 1.21 million tonnes in 2008. In monetary terms, poultry imports increased 27.4 percent on the year to US$1.34 billion in the period. All poultry imports came from non-CIS countries.
Russia's fish imports rose 1.3 percent on the year to 881,100 tonnes in 2008. In monetary terms, imports rose 17.6 percent on the year to US$1.66 billion in the period.
