Tyson to expand Iowa deli meat plant

Tyson Foods plans to expand its deli meat plant in Cherokee, Iowa, and boost production by 25 percent, according to a NBC news report.

The expansion will increase annual production by 20 million pounds to 75 million pounds of product, including hot dogs, Canadian bacon and deli meat, the report said.

Tyson will spend US$5 million to install additional slicing lines, and is currently working on a US$12 million project that added space for six new smokehouses and chillers.

The renovations are expected to complete this summer, the report quoted Jerry Menke, general manager of Tyson Deli.
