US company in China to produce organic aquaculture feed
New York-based HQ Sustainable Maritime Industries is in a tie-up with Marine Products College of Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan, China to produce organic aquaculture feed formulation.
HQ is an integrated aquaculture and aquatic product processing company, with operations based in China's Hainan.
HQ's activities include using renewable ocean resources, practicing cooperative sustainable aquaculture, and conducting fish processing and sales. Its variety of farmed and ocean-harvested products -- ranging from tilapia and shrimp to squid and red snapper are sold around the world.
HQ is one of China's top producers of tilapia fish exports to the US, commanding 10 percent of the market.
The Marine Products College is recognized by the China Ministry of Agriculture as its leading aquaculture institute and a pioneer in the formulation of new feeds for aquaculture.
The agreement with the university would allow HQ to further improve the quality of feeds for its tilapia farms, enhancing the quality of its "TiLoveYa" toxin-free brand.
HQ expects to produce an organic line of "TiLoveYa" products once the USDA has finalized American standards for freshwater pond-raised fish.
