US broiler-type eggs set rise 3% on-year
During the week ending February 2, 2013, US commercial hatcheries set 198 million eggs in incubators, a 3% increase from eggs set in the comparable year-ago period.
According to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), average hatchability was 84%.
Broiler-type chicks placed for meat production during the week ending February 2 gained 1% to 162 million chicks. Cumulative placements from December 30, 2012 through February 2 were 814 million, up 1% from the same period in 2011.
