Swedish layer farm detects Newcastle disease

A Swedish farm on the island of Gotland has been hit by Newcastle disease (NCD), which have resulted in 20,000 chickens culled and 120,000 eggs destroyed, according to the Swedish agricultural service.

Only hobby farms are closely situated to the NCD positive farm. The chickens on these farms will be tested.

In Sweden, NCD is currently circulating in doves. Hence, there is a higher vigilance for the disease in commercial poultry operations.
