Ukraine's 2011-12 Agrarian Fund to buy lesser wheat, more corn
Ukraine's Agrarian Fund is to acquire 1.05 million tonnes of wheat and meslin, 30,000 tonnes of corn, and 35,280 tonnes of buckwheat, according to a government resolution published Monday (Feb 7).
The purchases will be made on the domestic market for the 2011-2012 marketing year, July 2011-June 2012. The grain will form the intervention reserve.
In comparison with the grain intervention purchases in the 2010/2011 marketing year, wheat and meslin purchases are smaller, barley and corn purchases are greater, and buckwheat has been added.
Ukraine's grain harvest in 2010 fell by 14.8% on the year to 39.23 million tonnes. This year's harvest is expected by the agriculture ministry to rise to 45 million tonnes.
