Abu Dhabi administers vaccinations to over one million livestock

In the first phase of its fourth vaccination campaign against diseases affecting livestock that began last October, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has administered vaccinations to 1,084,000 goats, sheep, and cows.

The first phase of the campaign, between October 7 and December 31, 2012, vaccinated 899,655 goats, sheep and cows against foot and mouth disease, in addition to 184,624 sheep for protection against other diseases. The campaign covered all regions of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Mohamed Jalal Al Rayssi, director of Communication and Community Service division at ADFCA, said the campaign would continue until April this year, and would vaccinate against a host of diseases, such as PPR, sheep pox, etc.

"The objective is to render the livestock population free of all possible dangers. We aim to continue the campaign throughout the year to facilitate animals reaching total immunity as per the recommendations of international organisations," he pointed out.

"The vaccination campaign is integrally linked to the Animal Identification and Registration System. Livestock owners who have not registered their animals will not be eligible for the services," he added.
