China feed enzyme market size* in 2012 is 33,000 tonnes with a market value of US$146 million

- An in-depth investigation of China feed enzyme market in 2012

China's feed enzyme consumption reached 33,000 tonnes during 2012, a rise of about 10% compared with 2011's 30,000 tonnes. The major feed production provinces of Guangdong, Shandong and Henan, each with feed output exceeding 10 million tonnes a year, were the leading feed enzyme consumption regions. Each of the following major livestock production regions consumed over 2,500 tonnes of feed enzyme in 2012:

The use of concentrated enzyme in the feed industry expanded steadily over the year. Currently, about 45% of compound enzymes used are high-concentration types, with inclusion rate below 300g per tonne of feed. This is a tremendous increase compared with the market share of about 20% in 2007.

China's hog population grew steadily during 2012, keeping its uptrend for nine consecutive months between April and December. The 13% rise in hog inventories lifted the usage of compound enzyme by over 4%. Meanwhile, broiler sector's compound enzyme usage increased by over 5% while that of layer industry expanded 9%.

In terms of sales revenue the leading players in China's enzyme market include DuPont Danisco, Guangdong VTR Biotechnology, Hunan Youtell and KDN Biotech, each achieving about US$16 million or more in sales during 2012.
